Good writing is the most powerful tool to grab attention, attract more clients, grow your business, demonstrate your expertise, and outperform your competition. Being a skilled writer is almost like having a superpower.
But here’s the issue—most writing is just plain bad. It’s boring, stiff, and lacks energy. It doesn’t matter where you are in the world; this problem is universal.
Why is this? There are plenty of reasons: schools haven’t taught us well, writing is different from speaking, and most people haven’t learned the simple techniques that make writing compelling.
However, the "why" doesn’t really matter. What does matter is the "how." Specifically…
How to Fix Bad Writing for Good
In this series, I’m going to share tips and tricks I use to write articles, video scripts, blog posts, tweets, and more. And the best part? We’re going to do it without the boring grammar lessons.
I’m not concerned with things like sentence subjects, intransitive verbs, or demonstrative pronouns—leave those to English teachers. What we’re focusing on here is writing that sells.
Let’s dive in:
The Fastest Way to Get People to Read Your Stuff
The first challenge in writing is to seduce the reader into actually reading what you wrote.
You could write the world’s best article, but if people click off before they get to the good part, it’s all for nothing. Think of a dense newspaper with closely packed lines. Just looking at it makes your brain say, "Ugh, do we really have to slog through this?"
Now, look at this article. It’s much easier to digest, right?
That’s because I’m making it easy for you to get into it. Short paragraphs, clear sentences, no heavy jargon or run-on sentences. It’s approachable.
Short Form vs. Long Form Content
Does that mean you should oversimplify everything? Break it down like baby food? Talk like you're speaking to a hyperactive toddler? Absolutely not.
What it does mean is that you need to be mindful of how you format your content. Whether it’s video, audio, or text, every piece you create must hook your audience and keep them engaged.
And that’s just the beginning. There’s plenty more to cover, so stay tuned.
